It Is Finished: Setting The Captives Free

"It is finished" might be the most misunderstood thing Jesus ever said.

We slow down and sit with John 19:28-30, not as a dramatic ending, but as a legal statement: paid in full.

So if the debt's already cleared, why do so many of us still live like we're behind on payments to God? Still stuck in shame, fear, old habits, and the identity of who we used to be.

This episode is about what it looks like to stop moving like a slave and start walking like a son or daughter.

We pull a wild analogy from the film "Alice," where captivity keeps going even after the escape, because the mind never caught up to the freedom. That leads us to Luke 4:18 (Jesus proclaiming freedom to prisoners) and into Romans 6 and 12 as a roadmap for breaking agreement with sin and renewing your mind.

We get into generational patterns, the refining fire of God, and how learning the truth actually changes your confidence, your choices, and your direction.

Then we go practical on spiritual warfare. The enemy fights for your mind, but you're not battling in your own strength. We break down what it means to operate under Christ's authority, why relationship with Him is the whole point, and how holding unforgiveness can turn you into the warden holding the keys.

Okay. Father God, as we come before you this morning, we are grateful for your love, your mercy, your grace. We pray that your perfect will would be carried out in this week's episode. That we reach those that you've called for to reach, that lives will be impacted, lives will be changed. We thank you that your Holy Spirit is here, dwelling within us. We thank you that your spirit is flowing throughout this God. Your presence is here. We welcome you. We submit to you. We surrender to you, Lord Jesus, we worship you. We place our trust in you. We pray that your perfect will will be carried out like never before. We pray that we would be led by your spirit in all we do. Naming The Message "It Is Finished"

It is finished. Okay. Where did setting, where'd the uh setting the captives free come from, don't I?

Shanea 1:39

It came from when I was finished, when I was putting my notes together this morning. It literally just came this morning.

So where do we want to begin?

Shanea 1:52

So I think that we can just start at the beginning. What did you how did you get it is finished? Like where did it is finished come from?

Walter 2:06

It just came. I mean I I uh what came to me was the scripture when Jesus said it was finished.

Yeah.

Walter 2:14

Um I kept questioning it because it didn't make sense to me. And I kept hearing it is finished, it is finished. So it really just came from that. Um and kind of went from there that you know, hey, this is what I was hearing. Um and what came to me was John. I believe it's John 18. If I'm not mistaken, I could be wrong.

John or Luke?

Walter 2:41

Uh what came to me was John.

Shanea 2:43

Okay.

Walter 2:45

Um let me see. It's John 19, actually, John 19, verse 28. In the NLT it says Jesus knew that his mission was now finished, and to fulfill scripture, he said, I am thirsty. A jar of sour wine was sitting there. So they soaked the sponge in it, put it on his hyssop branch, and held it up to his lips. While Jesus had tasted it, he said, It is finished. Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. So that was that's what came to me.

Um and I'm like, okay, what is this? And I didn't know what it was. And then this morning and yesterday, I was getting it from the perspective of um where you were getting it from finally, because I kept asking God, like, God, what is it that you want to say? What what what route do you want? Because it can be taken so many different ways. And if you want, you can get into that and what God has showed you.

Yeah, so after you were like, it is finished, I was like, okay, I don't know what we gonna about what we about to talk about. And then I read the scripture, and then after I read it, what came to me was the Lord's Prayer, where it says, forgive us our debts as we forgive those who trespass against us, right? Uh as our debtors. Um so that scripture came to me, and I was like, Oh, okay, well, we were just talking about forgiveness, right? And were

Freedom Through Christ Like Emancipation

Shanea 4:25

we talking about debts?

When?

Shanea 4:28

When we were talking about forgiveness, we kinda we kind of touched on it in the last episode. Um, but then I was like, okay, all right, and we'll touch on it later on in the episode, but um, then we started to um we watched the movie Alice with Kiki Palmer and I just got like a whirlwind of revelation after I finished watching the movie. Um, and so if nobody's ever seen um Alice, Kiki Palmer is this um, she escapes this plantation where she believes that it it she's it's that the whole plantation is functioning like it's in the 1800s, but she escapes and she realized that, or not she realized, but she comes into a whole new world where it's 1973, when actually was 1973, but she was being held captive. And um after she got into this new world, she was just super illiterate, right? She had no knowledge of what this this world was, what 1973 looked like. She saw all these black people out free, um, where she and her family had been held captive on that plantation for decades. And so what was coming to me was Jesus as our emancipation proclamation. He him setting the captives free, him setting us free, like it is finished, meaning his mission was complete. Like we don't have any more debts, we're not a slave to sin, we're not held captive anymore. Right?

Walter 6:33

Yeah, that's that's what was coming to me this morning. Um from that perspective, that uh you're no longer slaves, uh, that you're free from the debt of sin. And it's just moving as if you're free. And a lot of times we don't move as if we're free. A lot of times we still move as if we're in debt. And so that's what he was dealing with me on this morning. Um the fact that we continue to allow ourselves to be in bondage, slaves, slaves to our former lives, our old selves, when he's already cleared on tab.

Shanea 7:10

Right.

Walter 7:11

Becoming the ultimate sacrifice.

Shanea 7:12

Right. Our ultimate emancipator.

Walter 7:15

Yeah.

Shanea 7:16

So we'll look at um Luke 4.18, where it says, um, the spirit of the Lord is on me because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom from the prisoners and recover and recovery of sight for the blind to set the oppressed free. Like he came to break curses, he came to break off um our debt to sin, right? Our um everything that's been passed down in your bloodline. And so, like when I was watching the movie, it made me think of like bloodline curses. Like Alice was breaking bloodline curses because she she escaped captivity, right? And she filled herself with all this knowledge, and now she's going back to get her family and bring them out of captivity.

Walter 8:20

And that was Luke 4, 18 that you read. Okay, go ahead.

Shanea 8:25

Um, so like whatever's been passed down through your bloodline, like your like poverty or alcoholism or addiction or um mental health disorders or disease or everything that comes through sin, right? Jesus already paid the debt. He already, he's if he's already set you free from those things. And so that was coming to me. And then there was this this scene in Alice where she comes back and it um her and the dude that she's with, she sets the forest on fire or the the area around the plantation on fire. And what was coming to me was like God's holy fire, right? Just cleansing the entire land, cleansing the entire land of sin. Because that whole plantation was corrupt. It was corrupt, it was just a land of d death, destruction. And it it was just a it was a symbolic representation of God's refining fire, his him purifying the land, right? What's coming to you? Because you're like super silent.

No, I'm just listening. Um I think uh Romans seven, it touches on no longer essentially being a slave to the law. And um in Romans six, uh it it touches on um the power of sin being broken. Uh verse 12, for example, it says, Do not let sin control the way you live. Uh this is Romans 6 verse uh or Romans chapter 6, verse 12. Don't do not let sin control the way you live, do not give in to sinful desires, do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead give yourselves completely to God. For you were dead, but now you have new life. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God. Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law, instead you live under the freedom of God's grace. And so it really um verse 18 now you are free from your slavery to sin, and you have become slaves to righteous living. And so uh Romans 7 it further digs into that. All of the stuff that you're saying, and then Romans 8 it teaches us to live our lives in the spirit. So, you know, of course, what Jesus did when he died on the cross was more than just uh um become the ultimate sacrifice. He we touched on that before. There's so much more tied to what he did. But one of the things that he did do is uh become that blood sacrifice or that sacrifice, because prior people had to sacrifice goats or lambs and animals and things to try to atone for their sin. Right. But it could never pay the cost, it can never atone for their sin. Um, this is something that shifted when Jesus did what he did, because not only did it give us access to the Holy Spirit, um, yet it gave us a way to operate in a way that was impossible for us to do before, where we can now be led by the Spirit of God and submit ourselves to the Spirit of God to be empowered to no longer be in bondage towards sin. So, but yeah, go ahead.

Shanea 12:19

No, you're fine. No, I I was just touching on that that part where I felt like he where I saw the fire and it just looked like it was symbolic to me of him cleansing the land. Like he always takes you through this fiery season where he's just burning all the impurities, refinement, burning all the impurities out of you, kick or killing off, you know, like I can't use the word, but cleansing you, right, of all the the sin in your in your life and in your bloodline. Um and that and I think that's what and Kiki was doing in the in the movie was just like, I'm gonna burn this place down because it doesn't need to exist, right? And so that's kind of what God does with us. He has this this this fiery holy fire where it just cleanses everything. And so then after,

Renewing Your Mind After Captivity

Shanea 13:20

and then there was another scene where or after she came out of captivity, right? We always talk about renewing our minds. Um, and so she had been held captive all her life. She grew up in slavery, and we grew up in sin, right? And so the Lord says that we perish because of the lack of knowledge that we have. And so, because of her lack of knowledge and because of all her family members' lack of knowledge, right? Um, they had been held captive. They had been slaves. There was an area in the movie where there was a um a pilot from the army or navy or wherever, he uh fell down on a parachute and he was free. And they were still on the plantation, but he landed on the plantation, and he had gave one of the um her ancestors or elders um a um uh a lighter, and they were like, This is so foreign. Where is this? What where did this man come from? He came from the sky. Like they were like, How is this possible? They thought it was like an old folk tale until she left the plantation, and then she came into this knowledge of a new world, which like we as Christians are born again, right? We come into a new world, like when you're an infant and you're born, you come into a new world. Yeah, and so when um she goes to this guy who picks her up and she goes to his house and he's like this black activist, and she's looking at all these jet magazines, she look, she's looking into um everything about slavery, the abolishment of slavery, and she comes as this realization that she was a slave. She was a slave, she had no knowledge that that they had abolished slavery. She didn't know, and so she didn't have the knowledge, she didn't have the understanding, she didn't have the confidence, right? Because she didn't know anything.

So, how does that apply to uh being a follower of Christ or as believers?

Shanea 15:42

So, as believers, when we're coming out of captivity, when we're coming out of sin, we have to renew our minds, right? We're born again. And so we have to be essentially re-educated on what this kingdom looks like because we are we have been operating in this kingdom of the world for so long. Even your family members, they don't even know what the kingdom of God really looks like until you start reading your Bible. And then once you start reading your Bible, you start renewing your mind, you start taking on the mind and the likeness of Christ, you start thinking differently, you start having more confidence, you start um coming into agreement with what God is saying about you and your family and your bloodline, and you're just renewing all the lies that you've been told.

Walter 16:36

So Romans 12, 1 through 2.

Shanea 16:38

Mm-hmm.

Walter 16:39

Yeah, I think the the most important thing as well is that you have to um you have to be open to accepting the gift that has been given to you. And and and you you've been allowed. Um so we know that when Jesus was talking to Peter, and he asked him, Who do you say I am? And Peter told him, You're the son of God and the Messiah. And Jesus explained to Peter at that time that flesh and blood could not have revealed this to you, essentially. I'm I'm paraphrasing. But, you know, this was something that had to come from my father. And because of that, and that real relation you have, whatever you lose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Uh, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven. And so that gave us an example to see that even the revelation of who Jesus is is presented to you by the Father, but you have to accept that revelation. And once you accept that revelation, that's what unlocks you being able to be open to the fact of the gift of salvation and being in a place where you can become free where those chains can be broken because we're born into this. As you stated, she was this is a lifestyle that we're born into, and when we come into it, we're looking at generations as she looked at generations that were born into it, and people that are surrounding you that's born into it, and so it's all you know.

Shanea 18:15

Right.

Walter 18:15

So it's easy to get out of a situation and have the information, but still not be willing to accept what it is that you're reading or even understand what it is that you're reading.

Shanea 18:29

Right. You have to you have to have a revelation. Um so that that truth that's there, it's it's factual, it lives in you, it breathes in you. And we all know they're saying the truth shall set you free. And there's in the Bibles John 8 32, where it says that you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. And so when she got out, she still operated like a slave. She was still fixing food for others, she was still fearful, she was still operating like a slave. She's dressed like a slave, she looked like a slave when she was free, but her mind wasn't free.

She was still in bondage.

Shanea 19:14

Yes, she was still in bondage because she didn't know the truth. She didn't have a revelation. But it comes through reading, it comes through spending time with God so that He can reveal to you who Jesus is and who you are as an adopted son and daughter.

Shanea 19:31

And to his kingdom.

Walter 19:34

And it goes back to just being open to accepting uh the biggest challenge, which is there's a war for your mind.

Shanea 19:44

There's a war for your soul.

Walter 19:45

Yeah. But it it but it the enemy attacks your mind.

Shanea 19:49

Yeah.

Walter 19:49

He attack your thoughts, he he attack your your conscious, your subconscious. Um, try to attach things to it. Your worldview, all of that is something that is created within your mind. And so it's breaking free within your mind. Um as a man thinketh, that show that shall he also be. I believe that's the New King James Version.

SPEAKER_04 20:12

Yeah.

Walter 20:13

So it's really important that that's what I think the Bible touches on so much. Once again, consistently renew your mind. Because if your mind is not renewed, like we stated before, you're not able to accept, she wouldn't be able to accept who she is.

SPEAKER_04 20:28

Right.

Walter 20:28

And walk into that until she was open to understanding that hey, this isn't right. There's something wrong here that I need to figure out. Which then led to her seeking out additional knowledge. But go ahead.

Shanea 20:43

Oh no, you're fine. I I lost my place for a second.

Walter 20:51

I think he was about to touch on spiritual warfare.

Spiritual Warfare And Real Authority

Shanea 20:55

Okay. Okay, so how can I look at this spiritually, right? Um after so after you as a as a newborn believer, right? Because a lot of times people give their life to Christ, they say the sinner's prayer, and then they don't know what else to do. Um, they kind of start reading their Bible, but they don't really know why they're reading their Bible, right? But then when you're reading your Bible, you're renewing your mind, you have to accept the fact that you you have come into a new agreement that you are going to follow Christ. You're not gonna follow the world, you're gonna follow Christ. So you can't do what the world does. You have to completely say, All right, I'm gonna give, I'm I'm going to set parts away from the old life and the old world that I'm used to. And this is this Bible is Bible, right? Like, and as you Start to do that, your truth is revealed to you, but then in all reality, now the enemy is mad, he's upset because he lost, he just lost one, right? And so there's always gonna be a battle between good and evil. There's always gonna be a battle for your soul because he wants to take as many people with him as he can. And so now that you've come into this new kingdom, there's gonna be a fight. Yeah, he's not gonna let you go because of all these agreements that you've made and all the sin that was born in your family. He he believes that he still has ownership of you.

Walter 22:41

He's essentially trying to collect. He's wanting to collect on the agreements that you've come into, contracts that you've made unknowingly.

Shanea 22:49

Mm-hmm.

Mm-hmm.

Shanea 22:51

Mm-hmm. And when you know that, now you have to confront him. Right? You can't hide in fear anymore. Because you've come from you've come from underneath him. Now you know your place in your position, that you're bigger, you're better, right? You have the the backing of heaven. And so it's uh there's going to be um, there's gonna be a war.

Walter 23:20

Yeah. And it's important to note that the Bible says, greater is he that's in me than he that is in the world. And that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. And so who strengthens me. So as you're going through warfare, it's not necessarily you, it's the Holy Spirit within you. So when you're dealing with the enemy, the enemy is not um, he's not cowering, or demons are not cowering to you, they're cowering to who sent you, who's giving you the authority, or who authority you're operating within.

Right.

Walter 23:56

So the Bible or you you see within and people within kingdoms can understand that when the king sends you, you operate under the authority of the king because the king sent you. And because of your relationship to the king, well, the same thing is applied spiritually. So you're operating under the authority of the king. You have Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Now he's become your Lord and Savior. So you're operating under the authority of him. So when you go, the Bible says that uh demons essentially they tremble at the name. When all every at the name of Jesus, every knee must bow, every tongue must confess. We know how they see Jesus because of who Jesus is. Well, the same applies to us as we're going through warfare. It's not through our own strength, but it's just because of who we are and who we serve, whose we are, whose we are and um who we're who we belong to, who we are in Christ.

Shanea 24:51

Yeah. And I always, I always pray or I always declare every day, Luke 10, 19, like I have authority over all the power of the enemy. And you have authority over all the power of the enemy. And once you realize, you know, after you've come out of captivity that you don't have to go back, right? And you don't have to accept the things that happened to you, that happened to your family that's still going on, you can say no, right? You can say no, this is not going down because I have authority over you. When Kiki got or Alice, she came back to the plantation, she confronted the her captor, right? Um, and he still thought he owned her, but he knew that she had information now that the others didn't, but he still felt like he owned her.

Yeah.

Shanea 25:46

But she was like, No, I'm not. I've taken my power back. You're not going to destroy me, destroy my family, destroy my bloodline anymore. You're not gonna hold us captive anymore. You're not going to um try and break us and destroy us anymore, because now I have truth. And because of the truth, I have truth, I now have power. And the truth is that we have authority.

Walter 26:14

Yeah. And it well, and even when you look at it, if you want to use that as an analogy, uh part of the reason that she was able to do what she did is because of the emancipation proclamation.

SPEAKER_04 26:29

Right.

Walter 26:29

So she came into agreement with the emancipation proclamation, right? And that became her authority to go and say, hey, you're no longer able to keep us in bondage because of this documentation, this document that has been created and that you know has been signed, basically stating that we have these rights.

Shanea 26:51

Legally, you can't hold it captive.

Walter 26:54

It it's not necessary, so it's even more further showing that it's not necessarily her authority, but it was the authority of that document. Because if it was not for that document, she would not be able to do that.

SPEAKER_02 27:05

Yeah.

Walter 27:06

Now, technically, they should not have been in captivity. We're not digging into all of that, but that's another situation. But for that example, um, so it's once again you understanding that it's because of what Jesus did at the cross and it's because of who Jesus is that you are able to walk and approach things from a place of authority.

SPEAKER_04 27:27

Right.

Walter 27:27

Without that, it's absolutely nothing. If you don't have him, it'd be similar to the example in the Bible where I believe I forgot who it was, but they was trying to cast out demons. Was it Simon? Not Simon Peter, but the the other was it Philip or someone.

Shanea 27:42

I'm sorry, say that again.

Walter 27:43

When he was trying to cast out demons, and the demons was like, Jesus, I know, Paul, I know.

Shanea 27:48

Oh, the sons of Skeva.

Walter 27:49

Yeah, but he was like, I don't know you. And they got the behind beat.

Shanea 27:52

Yeah.

Walter 27:53

So it's having it's coming into agreement, but also you being directly connected, him being your Lord and Savior.

SPEAKER_04 28:00

Right.

Walter 28:01

That provides you with the authority to now go into warfare. Don't do this without that.

Shanea 28:06

Right.

Walter 28:07

You know, because unfortunately, we've seen examples of people trying to use the name of Jesus to get things done, and they still get hurt, or in certain cases.

Shanea 28:16

Yeah.

Walter 28:17

You know.

Shanea 28:18

Or what was coming to me, like in the movie with her husband, he tried to escape. He just felt like, you know, he just wanted to. And he he tried to bully um the he thought he can outsmart the um the people who were running the plantation. But he ended up getting got and pulled him back because he didn't have knowledge, he didn't have understanding.

Walter 28:41

Yeah.

Shanea 28:42

Right.

Walter 28:43

He was trying to go in his own authority.

Shanea 28:45

Exactly. He was trying to go his own way. He didn't have any help. When Alice came back, she had help. She had backing.

Walter 28:53

Yeah.

Shanea 28:53

Mm-hmm.

Walter 28:56

So where do we go from here?

Shanea 29:00

Well, what had came to me before with the whole um when I was reading and what came to me was the Lord's Prayer about our deaths. I was like, how is this all tying in together? Um and when I was I was reading, hold on, let me get this up real quick. Um I'm trying to I'm sorry, I'm trying to f find out to figure out um where my thought was.

Walter 29:43

There was something that was getting to come into me earlier, but I I lost it, I lost it. Um I think I think we touched on it. I think it's just really consistently reiterating just having your authorities that you're able to do what you what you do. That's the biggest thing. I'm also tired,

Paid In Full, Adoption, And Forgiveness

Walter 30:05

but yeah.

Shanea 30:06

Yeah, okay. So one takeaway after I was doing like studying, um, like in the ancient Roman world, um a person was legally adopted. When a person was legally adopted, that all their old debts were completely canceled, and they instantly held the exact same legal rights to the father's estate as a biological son. And this is like exactly what Jesus did for us on the cross, yeah. And knowing that it brought back to my memory the Lord's prayer, right? Where because when Jesus Let me get this context together for y'all. Let me get this context together. I can find it.

Um when Jesus says it is finished, right?

Shanea 31:22

Um he used the word and I don't know how to pronounce this properly.

Walter 31:29

I looked it up but I forgot.

Shanea 31:32

Uh on how to say it?

Walter 31:34

Yeah.

Shanea 31:35

That's what he yelled.

And essentially he was saying it's been paid in full. He wasn't saying like it's finished, like my mission here is done. Like it is, but what he's saying is I've paid the price for their sins. I've I've cleared their debt. Right. And so in in essentially the court of heaven, right, our debts are completely erased. So we're no longer um a captive to sin or to the adversary, right? To the devil. Um, because according to Roman adoption, now um we don't have to maintain a debt for people who've hurt us because of the forgiveness part. When it goes back to Jesus saying, or there when Jesus says, How do we pray? and he gives us the Lord's Prayer, and it talks about forgives our debts because we forgive our debtors, right? And we just talked on forgiveness in the last episode about how important it is, because if we don't forgive, God doesn't forgive us. And if he doesn't forgive us, then our debts aren't really paid. We're just going back to the old, old, I guess, ledger or law.

Walter 33:16

Yeah, you are um placing yourself back under the law by doing that. So, and if you live by the law, you would die by the law.

Shanea 33:25

And then also when you are not holding, when you're um, when you're holding unforgiveness for a person, you're keeping that person captive.

Explain.

Shanea 33:37

Their debts, your their debts have already been paid through forgiveness.

Walter 33:44

Well, once again, it this does not mean that we you can go to the last episode where we discussed this in detail. That does not mean that they're not held accountable for what they've done.

Um, they're still held accountable. It's just really you giving it over to God. And it goes now, we're touching back on the importance of you're not moving in your own authority, you're moving in his. So, in all reality and in all ways and in every area, he became your Lord and your savior. So it's for him to handle uh vengeance, all of those different things. It's not for you because you've taken upon his ways and you've submitted yourself to the kingdom, you've submitted yourself to God, to Jesus. So now it's his his responsibility to fight your battle. Um, dealing with kingdom citizens or if you're a part of the kingdom.

Shanea 34:34

And it's his job to hold people accountable. You can't be the warden holding the keys, right? Yeah, holding other people captive in prisons because you can't forgive them.

Walter 34:45

Yeah. So it's just having an understanding of and taking a deep dive, doing a deep dive into what it means to be kingdom citizens, what it means to be adopted, a part of the family of uh of God, because you're both a child of God, yet you're also a kingdom citizen.

Right.

Walter 35:04

So it's operating as a son or daughter of the father, yet also understanding that you also serve a king, and you have to submit yourself to the king. But go ahead, babe.

Shanea 35:18

Oh no, you're fine. It's essentially saying that people don't owe you anything.

Walter 35:23

No. It sucks.

Shanea 35:26

It does.

Walter 35:26

Because you have, but that's also you um submitting your life, you crucifying yourself just like Jesus did, and you leaving it at the cross, you picking up your cross and you carrying it, and just submitting it all to him, which is not easy. Daily, daily you have to die to self. So yes.

This is a very short episode. Well, I mean, you know, it's that's all I had. It's it's it speaks for itself. Um that what my wife discussed. Um, I think she put this together before we had a conversation this morning. And it was also what was coming to me. Um, just the comparison, what Jesus did. Now there's greater things to what Jesus did at the cross. But this is one portion of what Christ did for us at the cross and the importance of us coming into agreement with it and gaining an understanding of who we are in Him and because of Him and through Him. And so your debt has already been paid, you're no longer slaves to sin. However, you have to recognize and come into agreement with that in order to live that out in your lives.

Living Set Apart In Relationships

Walter 36:56

So, and that's in every area, like even if we look at it from a relationship perspective, it should shift how you approach relationships prior, and and you know, we talk about this all the time, you should not approach relationships like the world approached relationships because your mind should have been renewed.

Right.

Walter 37:15

So you don't, for example, you have the churches that would teach you you need to go out and just date everybody and come up with a list for yourself. No, that's the world's way of doing things. That's not God's way.

SPEAKER_05 37:26

Right.

Walter 37:26

God stated that it was not good for man to be alone and that he would find a helper that was suitable for Adam. Adam didn't put a list together, Adam wasn't focused on it. So the world teaches you to be focused on those things, date as many people as you can date, go through that entire process, but God tells us to move differently. So that's just one example.

Shanea 37:47

Yeah. And what also was coming to me was Exodus when um the children um of God came out of Egypt and they still wanted to do the same things they were doing before. They still wanted to act like how they acted when they were under Pharaoh. And so when you're in a relationship prior to Christ, you can't do the same things. You can't look at relationships the same way, um, even if it doesn't feel good. Like you, you might feel lonely, you might feel tired, like God, I'm tired of waiting on a spouse. And you know, God, I don't understand what's going on. And it's just like you, you just gotta wait. You know, you just have to allow God to do what God is doing. You gotta go through the refining fire so that He can cleanse the land, meaning your body, your, you're it in the territory around you so that you can come into a place of honey, right?

Walter 38:46

Yeah. And even from that perspective, always present the, you know, what is this? Like um, always look at it from the spiritual perspective. I know there's things that are awakened before it's time, even from like a sexual place. If you went from being sexually active and all of those things, and now you're going and saying, I'm committing myself to God, yeah. You still got to deal with the things behind that.

Yes.

Walter 39:09

And so it's not just approaching it from a natural perspective, but also approaching it from a spiritual perspective.

SPEAKER_04 39:14

Yeah.

Walter 39:14

And it's challenging because you know, when you choose to live life that way, if you don't go through that refining process, uh, you bring all of this baggage into that relationship. When God do bring that person that He's called for you to be with, you can end up negatively impacting it and going through some trauma and dealing with some stuff because you or both of you all are coming into this relationship because you've approached it from this old mindset, this old way of thinking. So you're like, okay, I'm taking this from this relationship, that from that relationship, this from this, this from that. And you're now trying to bring it in. You want your partner to be all of these things that you think they're supposed to be. So your mind hasn't been renewed. You're not looking at this with a new lens. Your lens is dirty, your soul. And so you're approaching this from a very soulless perspective and not a spiritual perspective. And now it shifts how you even approach the dynamics of the relationship.

Yeah.

Walter 40:09

And that's just within the relationship aspect. If we look at career or we look at family or whatever the case may be, I know one of the things my wife and I have been discussing and praying on is how you do a blended family from the perspective of being believers. And so everything that you do, it has to shift. You don't move accordingly to the world, you don't take on pagan ways.

Shanea 40:33

Yeah.

Walter 40:33

Uh, the woman of God, I forgot her name, the prophetess, but she was talking about the inf the fact that Barbara Calloway. Was that her name? Barbara Calloway? Prophetess Barbara Calloway. She said something that was so important, and she's like, in modern time, I'm not able to recognize, and people not aren't able to recognize those who are holy versus those who are not. There is not a distinction between those who are um in the world and of the world and those who are in the world but not of the world. There should be a distinct uh you good. That's gonna be a great call.

Shanea 41:12

I'm sorry, I've got it to add it to go.

Walter 41:15

There's gonna be a difference between the two. And so, um, you know, where was I? Okay, yeah. And so people should be able to recognize that there's something different about you and how you move and how you handle relationships and how you move within your career and the decisions you make and why you make it the decisions you make. You should not look like the world.

Right.

Walter 41:41

You should not have the stench of the world on you. And so this is why all of this is so important. This is why it's important that you renew your mind. This is why it's important that you come into agreement with what Christ did at the cross. This is why it's important that you gain an understanding and wisdom and revelations of who you are and who you belong to and how God has called you to live your life.

Shanea 42:03

Yeah. No, when you were talking, I was getting this image of um of a lawn. You know, I'm I'm like big on imagery and numbers and music. That's how God speaks to me, right? And so I was seeing, you know how like um you have a yard, and the yard is like it's full of weeds and it's full of overgrowth, and it's just not a pretty yard. But in order to get a uh a pretty a pretty lawn or pretty green grass, you have to burn your lawn, right? They they frown upon it, they don't want you to do it. You can get fined for it, right? You can literally go to jail for burning up your lawn, setting it, setting fire to your your lawn, your landscape. But when you do that, the grass comes back so much greener.

SPEAKER_06 42:52

Yeah.

Shanea 42:52

And so when you're going through a refining period, you can't just burn part of your yard, right? You have to burn the whole thing so that it can come back beautiful, flourish, and it looks different from everybody's grass on the block. It's going to. And so, like when you're when you're a born-again believer, you have to go through the fire so that you and you have to, and like you like Barbara was saying, you can't tell the difference until you go through that fire. And so you know when someone's really gone through the fire, you know when someone's really, really walking with the Lord because their life is different. It's not the same, it doesn't look like everybody else's. And then you have to realize that it's not gonna look like everybody else's because everybody hasn't gone through the same process.

Walter 43:38

And you're not able to do what everyone else does. And then sometimes people are gonna say you're doing too much, and all of these different things. And and everything you do, you realize you have to submit your life to God.

Shanea 43:48

Yeah.

Walter 43:49

And so it's not easy living that life.

Shanea 43:51

People are gonna say you're too religious or you're too you're doing too much. Just like when you walk by somebody's lawn and like, dang, you trying to show out. You trying to show me out.

Walter 44:01

Yeah. So it's it's important. Um, but those are the things that was, you know, coming to mind. Um I don't is there anything else you got? This is a very short episode, maybe like 45 minutes.

I think it was helpful. It really touched on what God was already dealing with me on. So I think I pray this has been a blessing to you all. Um I yeah, pray that this is helpful. I I believe this is important. It's the basics and the building blocks. Um, and it's a reminder uh to to get back to the basics.

And so it goes into par with some of the other things that we've been kind of discussing. The Holy Spirit has been having us to discuss. Now it makes sense on why he said that's what he wanted us to discuss. So it's for someone.
