This Too Shall Pass: Why God's Timing Isn't Your Timing

Trouble has a way of shrinking your world until all you can see is the deadline, the bill, the conflict, or the waiting. We recorded this one tired but honest, because the message wouldn’t leave us alone: this too shall pass, and it starts with learning to see time the way God sees it. When we treat God like he owes us an answer by Friday, we end up measuring love by speed, and we miss the bigger work he’s doing in our character, faith, and endurance.

We walk through a biblical perspective on suffering and God’s timing, pulling from Daniel 2, Ecclesiastes 3, John 11, and Paul’s words in 2 Corinthians. We talk about God revealing mysteries, seasons shifting even when the calendar says otherwise, and why not every hardship is persecution and not every hardship is punishment. Some pain is consequences from choices, some is the cost of obedience to Christ, and sometimes those realities intertwine. The question we keep coming back to is simple: what is God saying about this situation right now?

John 11 brings it home. Jesus delays for Lazarus, he knows the outcome, and he still weeps, showing us how to hold real emotion without letting it override eternity. Then Paul takes it deeper: being pressed on every side but not crushed, learning to rely on the God who raises the dead, and choosing to fix our gaze on what lasts forever. If you’re in the middle part, the place where you know God spoke but you can’t see the “how,” this conversation is for you.

Father God, we thank you for this day. We thank you for your love, your grace, and your mercy. We thank you, Father God, for everything that you're doing and everything that you're about to do. We thank you, Father God, for strength. We thank you, Father God, for opening up our listeners' ears and eyes. We thank you for opening up our ears and our eye gates, Father God, to hear and see what it is that you are saying, Father God, in this season on this episode today, in the mighty name of Jesus, we pray.

Exactly. This two shall pass. So even though it's 3:30 in the morning, Sinead, this two shall pass. Um, we apologize. We have not been posting as we should. We are still trying to figure this schedule thing out given the things that's going on with the family. Um, there's no excuse. We pray for grace. Uh, we've prayed for grace with the Father. And we hope that you all would provide us with grace as well. We realize how important this is, and we will work to do better and prayerfully be able to come up with a consistent schedule. Um, but at the very least, I'm like, okay, we gotta at least post every two weeks, but we do have to get back to posting once a week.

Why “This Too Shall Pass” Matters

Walter 3:10

Um, let's see. So this too shall pass is what I heard when I was praying on the next episode that God wanted us to, or what God wanted us to discuss in the next episode. Once again, I'm like, okay, random. You know, this too shall pass is not a scripture, but this it's an old proverb. Had no clue. However, there are scriptures that would um that can be utilized to uh basically support the idea of this too shall pass. So as I begin to dig into it, you know, God just began to download Revelation. It went in a um it was approached in the way that I didn't think it was going to be approached. Right? I can see your live edits. So um this is really important, and I think this is the place to start. Um, one of the greatest challenges for believers is learning to step outside of time and view our current troubles as one snapshot within God's eternal timeline. Thoughts?

One of the greatest challenges for believers is learning to step outside of time and view our current troubles as a snap or as one snapshot within God's eternal timeline. Eternity versus the constraints of time. So a lot of times when we're in situations, we see it as being something that is bigger than anything else, not understanding that when you look at it from the perspective of God, it's really just a snapshot of your life. This too shall pass. You don't have anything to say. You're trying to give me back. That's not of God.

Shanea 5:22

Walter 5:25

Well, you should not hold, we're not supposed to hold any offenses.

Shanea 5:29

I'm not holding an offense. I'm just stating the obvious. I'm struggling.

But I'm not gonna do you like how you do me.

And that passed. So what are your thoughts?

Shanea 5:47

Um, I think that what you just said essentially was that we that um like an hour to us might be like a millisecond to God. And so a year to us might be like not even a day, maybe an hour to God. And so He sees everything that's going to happen when it's gonna happen, and we can't.

Walter 6:23

Yeah. God sees the ending, the beginning, and the middle all at the same time.

Shanea 6:30

And it's hard for us to see the end when you're in the thick of things.

Walter 6:34

Yes. So when you think of this two shall pass, it begins with understanding God's perspective, God's perspective of time, not ours. It helps out a lot when you begin to view it and saying, okay, how do I look at this from the perspective of God? How do I step out of this and into eternity to take a look into this? Which is easier said than done when you're going through stuff. But we begin here. And it's like the first thing that we have to understand is what God exists outside of time.

Seeing Trouble From God’s Timeline

Walter 7:10

God literally exists outside of time.

Yeah.

Walter 7:13

So we talked about this, but some scriptures that I was reading that stood out to me was Daniel 2, verse 11, and Daniel 2, 20 through 23. Um, just a sidebar, right? As I was reading it, it just really uh made me realize, even though you already know it, how big God is.

Shanea 7:34

Um I serve a very big God.

Walter 7:39

My wife is tired.

Shanea 7:41

A very big God.

Walter 7:44

So, um, Daniel 2. The chap Daniel the second chapter is referring to a King Nebuchadnezzar had his dream, and he was troubled by this dream he had. And so he would know that the magicians and the different people, wise men he had, weren't lying. He um told him, I want you to tell me my dream before you interpret my dream. Because you can try to interpret my dream and lie and say my dream means this and it don't. And he really wanted an understanding of what it meant. So it's a good chapter to read, but one of the things that stood out to me is he was going at them and saying, if you don't tell me my dream, I'm gonna just take all of y'all out, essentially. Um but it was like, okay, what you're requesting is something that's just is impossible. In verse 11, it said, the king's demand is impossible. No one except the gods can tell you your dream. And they do not live here among people. And I that stood out to me because it's like we are now post-resurrection in a place where Jesus lives within us. The Holy Spirit lives within us. So he walks with us day by day, right? And then um, after God had given them the interpretation of the dream, one of the things that stood out to me is verse 22. Uh, when it states that he reveals deep and mysterious things and knows what lies hidden in darkness, though he is surrounded by light. And so it's just really an understanding, it it puts into perspective who God is and how big God is and how like deep his knowledge, his wisdom goes. So I thought that was interesting. But um, starting off, right, God created time. When we think of time, we look at Genesis chapter one and we see how God created time to sustain this universe, and so um we have to understand that God is not governed by time because God exists outside of time. You good? And so um, with that being an understanding, we have to also understand that there's time, there's seasons, we're always operating within seasons, and we'll get into that, but that's in Ecclesiastics 3, 1 through 11.

Daniel 2 And God Reveals Mysteries

Walter 10:17

There's always seasons that we're operating in. And that um unfortunately for us as believers, we can become imprisoned by calendars, delays, disappointments, and seasons because they we forget that um God is still God.

Yeah.

Walter 10:39

We get so caught up in trapped, and we become entrapped in this world. You got bills that's due every month. You got bill collectors coming after you, you have things that you have to do, you have uh all of these things that's consistently on time. This gotta be done, this gotta be done, this gotta be done. There's people giving you deadlines, you gotta do this by this time. So, with that being the case, in many instances, we begin to adapt to a life where we are driven by time, the the constraints of this time or the time periods that we're in, or the time that we're in, as we're serving God, and what happens is we begin to hold God accordingly to those same standards.

Yeah.

Walter 11:27

We begin to look at God and say, okay, just like we have time constraints, I'm now gonna place you on a time constraint.

Shanea 11:34

What do you mean?

Walter 11:36

What do you mean? What do you mean?

Shanea 11:37

Say that again.

Walter 11:38

Because we are we have time constraints. We place God on time constraints.

SPEAKER_03 11:43

Oh, yeah.

Walter 11:45

So because we gotta have something in by that's the specific this particular date, we're like, okay, God, well, you need to do this by this date. And if you don't do this by this date, you don't love us, or my prayer has not been answered, or you're not hearing me, or whatever the case may be.

SPEAKER_03 12:02

Yeah.

Walter 12:03

And it can become challenging because we can begin to look towards God and say, without even realizing that you serve me, which is not scriptural.

SPEAKER_03 12:14

Yeah.

Walter 12:15

So let's look at some thoughts that I wrote down. Um, and I think we may touch in on this, but I'll and I'll come back to it. Um, because this is important. Uh some notes I wrote. So as we're discussing this, right? I think one of the important things that we have to remember is that um we can't automatically say that God is the reason that we're going through what we are going through, right? Um, oh, we're gonna touch on that. I'll leave that. We're gonna get into free will. Because a lot of people say, oh, God is the reason this is happening. The whole scripture, and we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who are called according to his purpose.

Yeah.

Walter 13:09

And so they will use that as an excuse and say, everything that I'm going through is because of God. You know, God is testing me. Um, some people even believe that God tempts them, even though the Bible says that's not the case. Um and so nothing.

Shanea 13:30

Walter 13:31

Okay. So getting into Ecclesiastics 1 or 3.

Let's go to verse 1 through 11. You want to read that?

I get there. Ecclesiastes three. Verse what?

Walter 13:50

Starting at verse 1 through 11.

Shanea 13:55

For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven, a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to harvest, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build up, a time to cry and a time to laugh, a time to grieve and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones, and a time to gather stones, a time to embrace, and a time to turn away, a time to search, and a time to quit searching, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear, and a time to mend, a time to be quiet and a time to speak, a time to love, and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace. What do people really get for all their hard work? I've seen the burden God has placed on all of us. Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart. But even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God's work from beginning to end.

Ecclesiastes 3 And Seasons Of Life

Walter 15:20

I think that is powerful. Once again, it states that he has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God's work from beginning to the end. If we was just to look at what God was really doing, we wouldn't be able to deal with it. It would be too much for us to handle. And sometimes it's easy, it's extremely easy to say, okay, God, you're not doing enough, or you're not this, this, this, and this. You couldn't handle seeing the entirety of everything that God is doing or that God has in store for you, which is why God gives it to you in uh snapshots, snap, snapshots.

Mm-hmm.

Walter 16:04

Snapshots. And essentially an increment. So really what we have to understand is that first and foremost, everything has a season, right? Uh and I want to read it from this because this is how it came to me when I was taking notes. Where is ecclesiastic? Um let's see. I'm looking through it, I'm looking through it. Let me read this real quick. So, what was coming to me is um not only is God eternal, but through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, he has called us to live within awareness of eternity while faithfully walking within the constraints of time. Uh, time itself is part of God's created order, a framework he established to govern creation and unfold his purpose throughout history. In that sense, time is one of the one of the means God uses to order and sustain the cosmos under Christ's sovereign authority. And as followers of Christ, we must allow the Holy Spirit to renew our minds so our perspective on time is transformed. Rather than resisting God's timing, we learn to trust his process, recognizing that he works through time to shape our character, fulfill his promises, and prepare us for eternity. So we have to shift our perspective on timing in the sense of going through trials, whether it's uh centered around previous decisions that we made, or whether or not it's really having an understanding of, like, okay, God, help me to see this the way you see this, right? And just really being able to zoom out and look at it from the perspective of the fact that, first of all, Christ still holds all things together, right? And second of all, that God works through time to mature us. What's your thoughts?

Shanea 18:14

Walter 18:15

Because you're trying to do me like I I didn't I didn't intentionally.

Shanea 18:18

I'm not intentionally either.

Shanea 18:25

Um I think that that that's that's good.

Walter 18:32

If you don't let the Holy Spirit use you Holy Spirit, if you don't leave me. If you don't let the Holy Spirit use you. So some points to make out is that God is not the author of every hardship. And we just talked about that a lot of times when we go through things. Oh, God is using this to do whatever, or God is using this to strengthen us, and this is God. No, no, no. Some things is self-inflicted. God can take that situation and yes, use that, but it's not God inflicted. It's self-inflicted. You made a decision, God tried to forewarn you of the decision that you were about to make, and you still chose to be your own God and make that decision. Now there are consequences associated with that decision. Yet within those consequences, God can still utilize that to get the glory.

Shanea 19:41

All for his glory. Exactly.

Walter 19:45

So it's understanding that free will still exists. Um, like I stated, people make sinful choices. Um, consequences, like I stated, exist. Persecution exists. But yet, even within that, God still remains sovereign. So when we're thinking about things that we may be going through, um, it could be connected to persecution. Persecution can come from decisions that you made in the past that God did not want you to make, yet it shifts and now you're dealing with persecution because of that. You want me to explain that?

Shanea 20:24

Yeah.

Walter 20:26

Okay.

Shanea 20:26

Because, you know, persecution, persecution, like for Christ or because or for yourself?

Walter 20:34

Persecution for Christ. So, okay. Decisions you make. So using our using our example, and we'll get into our testimony eventually. Um being with people previously, you're no longer with them people. You move on. You give your life to Christ, you begin to make decisions based on how you're led by Christ and what we're taught to do, based on the scripture, based on how God leads us, uh, based upon the understanding of what we know now. They call you crazy.

Shanea 21:10

Yes.

Walter 21:11

They say you're a part of a cult.

Shanea 21:13

Yes.

Walter 21:14

They attack you having a relationship with God and how you approach a relationship with God. That's persecution.

Shanea 21:23

But that's not because of the decisions that we made. But what I'm saying is that there's they you they're they're being used.

Walter 21:30

So there's a difference between persecution because it, or there's a difference between you being dealing with the consequences to the decisions you made versus the persecution that comes with you being a believer.

Shanea 21:40

Correct. And both are true at the same time.

Walter 21:43

Yeah. So that example is you're being persecuted because you're a believer. Yes. That don't change the fact that there may be other things that take place that have is connected to you having consequences because of decisions you made. Consequences because of the decisions you made may be. Um, having to go through unnecessary troubles uh associated with previous decisions, or if someone cheat, the person leaves. That's not persecution, that's you you cheated, you're dealing with consequences. Right. Or if you steal and you get locked up for stealing, and you become a Christian, you didn't get locked up because you was a Christian, you got locked up because you stole.

SPEAKER_03 22:22

Right.

Walter 22:23

Or you being a Christian don't change the fact that you still have to deal with the consequences associated with the decision you made.

SPEAKER_03 22:29

Correct.

Walter 22:31

So that's the thing. Make sense?

SPEAKER_03 22:35

Yeah.

Free Will, Consequences, And Persecution

Walter 22:38

So food for thought, right? How often do we forget that God is still God while we're in the middle of our circumstances?

Shanea 22:49

We just forget. There's no often, there's just we forget.

Walter 22:56

Is that you saying that we consistently forget that? Yes. And have to consistently remind ourselves that God is in control.

Shanea 23:05

Yeah, because if we always knew that God is in the midst of everything, is in the midst of all the circumstances, then we wouldn't be, we wouldn't be tripping.

Walter 23:14

True. That's when the Bible talks about in Galatians 5 that we're to allow the Holy Spirit to lead us. And that's when Romans 12 talks about how we're to have our minds renewed. And so, and I think Romans 8, I believe. I believe it's Romans 8 that talks about um walking in the spirit. And so people is like when you think of walking in the spirit, it's really you have a different lens. Yeah. So you're choosing on you're choosing to view things from the perspective of God and what God has said versus from what you see in the natural.

SPEAKER_03 23:53

Yeah.

Walter 23:55

So um, and exactly. Um I think this this would help if we gained the revelation of what this meant. So not only is God eternal, but through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, he has called us to live with an awareness, and we talked about this earlier, of eternity while faithfully walking within the constraints of time. And that's Jesus is a prime example of this because he always did it. Even though he was, he could, he allowed himself to be constrained by this time, he still operated within eternity. So he would make comments that people would be like, What are you talking about? Tear this temple down and build it back up in three days. He was speaking prophetically and he was talking about his uh his crucifixion. They didn't understand what he was talking about. He was consistently, while he was there, also thinking upon the fact of like, okay, this is what God has called me to, this is what the Father has called me to, this is what I have to do. He would do things and basically state this has to be done to fulfill prophecy.

Shanea 24:57

Right. But the thing is, is that he could see what was gonna happen. We a lot of us, I'm not gonna say we can't see, right? I'm not gonna confess that. But what I am saying is that what I am saying is that a lot of times people cannot see what God is doing, and a lot of times we're not going to see what he's doing because he's building stuff in us, but a lot of times he does show us or tells us prior to us making decisions what's gonna happen. We choose not to listen. And then sometimes when we are in the thick of things, we can see. We can't see, so we don't want to see.

Walter 25:53

Yes and no. So I believe many of us can see, we just don't know the how. So, and what I mean by that is this you can receive a rhema word, many of us receive a rhema word, many of us receive a prophetic vision, many of us receive dreams, we can dream, and God will reveal things to us through dreams, through a prophetic word, through a uh vision, yeah, um, through uh the scripture, or whatever may have you, or you may have just a knowing that this is going to be okay. And so the challenge becomes that digs back into um Daniel 2. And Daniel 2 says, God is what? He's the revealer of all mysteries.

SPEAKER_03 26:45

Right.

Walter 26:46

So it's our responsibility to seek that mystery out.

SPEAKER_03 26:50

Right.

Walter 26:51

So it's there is just are you distracted? Because when we look at Jesus, Jesus is the prime example of not being distracted and having an intimate relationship with the Father. So there was an understanding of what he saw. So if he did it, is we have the ability to do it, but we see with Lazarus, which we're gonna dig into later on.

Shanea 27:20

Yeah, I'm not saying we don't have the ability to. I'm saying that we a lot of times don't see, right? Because we are distracted by lots of things.

Walter 27:34

But the question becomes, and we we talked about this before, because God was dealing with me on it, whose fault is it?

Shanea 27:41

It's your fault. I'm not saying I'm not saying that God is like sometimes God doesn't show you things on purpose. Yes. And he will let you know that I'm not telling you.

Walter 27:53

But he at the very least will let you know I got you.

Shanea 27:56

Yes.

Walter 27:57

Trusting me. But you can even have the scripture, trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean on your own understanding, but in all of your ways, acknowledge him, and he shall direct your path.

Shanea 28:05

Right. That and and the that part, when God doesn't show you exactly what's gonna happen, he'll give you a uh there is a, he'll tell you the ending. Like he'll tell you this is where you need, this is where I want you to be.

Walter 28:25

So I I think we could take a deeper dive into that, right? Because then we have to see how it view how with how it's approached uh post-Christ. We do have instances when we think of Paul and the persecution that Paul went through that he touched on, I think, in 2 Corinthians chapter one, the beginning of it, when he talked about how they were persecuted on all sides and did not know how things was gonna go, but eventually God came through. So that would kind of support your uh thought process that there are instances where God is just like, I you're gonna be in the thick of it.

Shanea 29:00

Right. You feel like he's just not there.

Walter 29:02

Yeah.

Shanea 29:03

But you know, you know what he said, but you're like, bruh, where are you? Well, why can't I see what's going on? What do I do?

Walter 29:13

Well, I think that if we was to take anything away from that, we gotta learn to trust God. We gotta learn to trust God in the process, right?

SPEAKER_03 29:21

Yeah.

Walter 29:22

And it it goes back to the basic and understanding God uses time to do what? Shape character.

SPEAKER_04 29:28

Yes.

Walter 29:29

Fulfill promises, increase faith, and prepare us for eternity. You're gonna consistently be going through this repeated cycle with different instances in your life. If it's not one thing, it's gonna be another. Because you consistently have to grow your faith in the Lord. Your character consistently has to go through this process of refinement.

Shanea 29:50

Yeah, well, I mean, I was continuing or continuing um Ecclesiastes 3. And at the end of or verse uh 14 says, and I know that whatever God does is final, nothing can be added to it or taken from it. God's purpose is that people should fear him. What is happening now has happened before, and what will happen in the future has happened before. Because God makes the same things happen over and over again.

Walter 30:34

Well, yes, we also gotta understand that was Solomon speaking, and as he was speaking, he was in a really interesting space. But the the Bible says that there's nothing new under the sun, and when we study from but when we uh look at at uh historical events, we see that many times it repeats itself just in different ways.

Shanea 30:53

Yeah, I mean, and then when you look at your life, the same things happen over again and just looks different.

Walter 30:58

Yeah, sometimes part of the reason that takes place is because you didn't pass the test. Other times it's the enemy doing the same thing just differently.

Shanea 31:07

And it'll happen again. It's gonna happen again.

Walter 31:09

Well, even when you look at Jesus, Jesus was tempted three different times by the enemy. He was trying to do him, get him to do the same thing over and over again.

Shanea 31:17

That's not saying that you have to do the same thing over and over again, but it's still gonna happen.

Walter 31:23

In different ways.

Shanea 31:24

In different ways. I'm not that's what I'm saying.

Walter 31:28

So with that being the case, um I messed you up. You did, but it's fine.

Shanea 31:37

My bad. Let's um You said let the Holy Spirit use me.

Walter 31:43

What I would um because it's it's it's it's 44 verses. I would read it, but for the sake of time, I would say I would ask people to read John 11, 1 through 44. And that's essentially uh an account of what took place with with Jesus and Lazarus. And it really just kind of touches on um Jesus having an understanding of time, and that even Jesus subjected himself to time and to the to God's timing, in spite how he felt. Because Jesus had it, the the the Bible says, um, I'll read a couple. Verse one, a man named Lazarus was sick. He lived in Bethany with his sisters Mary and Martha. Uh, this is the Mary who later poured the expensive perfume on the Lord's feet and wiped them with her hair. Her brother Lazarus was sick, so the two sisters sent a message to Jesus telling him, Lord, your dear friend is very sick. But when Jesus heard about it, he said, Lazarus' sickness would not end in death. No, it happened for the glory of God, so that the Son of God would receive glory to him from him, from this. So although Jesus loved Martha, Mary, and Lazarus, he stayed where he was for the next two days. Finally, he said to his disciples, Let's go back to the to Judah to Judea. So, if you continue to read on and go further in the passage, he has this encounter with uh Mary and Martha. And the Bible lets us know that he was grieved. He was saddened by the fact that Lazarus had died, even though, and he was saddened by their state of affairs or their like where they were, their their state of emotions. Uh yet, even in the midst of all of this, Jesus still subjected himself to the m- the glory of God, or not the glory, but to the will of God with Lazarus. Because if it was up to Jesus, he would have been just gone and healed him. But he stated what this had to be done. It's stated here, Lazarus' sickness, this is verse 4, Lazarus' sickness will not end in death. No, it happened for the glory of God, so that the Son of God will receive glory from this. And so a lot of times as we're dealing with things, uh, we have to take this approach that Jesus took with Lazarus. So Jesus operated by the Spirit, right? Uh, he existed in both eternity and the time of this world uh simultaneously. So essentially, while he was he understood what was taking place, he removed himself from that situation and he viewed it from um outside of eternity, um, outside of time within eternity. So he knew the ending, right? He knew what needed to take place, he knew God had it, he knew how everything was going to unfold. But even within that, he still dealt with the physical aspect of it because he was grieved. He still dealt with the physics physical aspect of it because he loved all three of them. And so even as God manifested in flesh, Jesus, right? His emotions never overruled eternity, and that was that. And that's an example for us as we go through what we go through.

Lazarus And Submitting To God’s Will

as we're going through what we're going through, and when people are going through, when you guys are going through what you're going through, the main thing is, God, what is your will in this situation? What's your will in this situation? And then he will start to reveal mysteries to you about what his will is. He might not tell you exactly what's going to happen, but he will guide your steps, like, hey, this is what you need to do next. This is where you need to go. This is who you need to talk to. This is who you don't need to talk to. This is what I want you to do. I want you to fast. I want you to pray.

And you may not know the how.

You may not know how it's gonna happen.

He let you know what the what is going to happen. It's always the in-between that we struggle with. Yeah, it's the beginning, and you know the ending. It's that middle part though.

The struggle is how long is this going to happen? How long am I going to do that?

Which is really challenging.

Suffering in this.

Because once again, you're looking at it from a constra from the constraint of time.

Because we're human, but we have to always be reminded that God operates in eternity.

Yes, he is. God is always on time. Because he's on his time.

Exactly. And so, but but with Jesus, it's like he refused to allow temporary reality to dictate his perspective because he was anchored in what had already been established in eternity. We got to become anchored in what was established in eternity. We got to become anchored in the word of God. And that's why I, you know, I stated to you many times before, and I think we've stated it on this podcast, I've stated it. Um whenever you're dealing with something, the greatest thing that you could do is figure out what God is saying about the situation.

Yeah, what's God's will?

That's the greatest thing because once you know what God is saying about a situation, once you know for sure, without a shadow of a doubt, what God is saying about a situation, it is done. It is so. That's it. So um don't be moved by feelings, don't let temporary circumstances define eternal truth and understand faith grabs hold of what God has already established. We gotta have faith to stand on the word of God for that particular situation in spite of how things look. So we 2 Corinthians 1, 3 through 10. Um read this real quick. You wanna read it? For the more we suffer for Christ, the more God will show shower us with his comfort through Christ. Even when we are weighed down with troubles, it is for your comfort and salvation. For when we ourselves are comforted, we will certainly comfort you. Then you can patiently endure the same things we suffer. We are confident that as you share in our sufferings, you will also share in the comfort God gives us. We think you ought to know, dear brothers and sisters, about the troubles we went through in the province of Asia. We were crushed and overwhelmed beyond our ability to endure, and we thought we would never live through it. In fact, we expected to die. But as a result, we stopped relying on ourselves and learned to rely on only on God who raises the dead. And he did rescue us from mortal danger, and he will rescue us again. We have placed our confidence in him, and he will continue to rescue us.

Yep. Verse 9. It is key, it's very powerful. In fact, we expected to die, but as a result, we stopped relying on ourselves and learned to rely only on God who raises the dead. Paul was saying that even in the midst of what he was going through, that there was something that was unlocked in him in the midst of all of that trouble, which put him and those that were with him in a place where they they came to the end of themselves. There is nothing that I can do within this situation other than rely on God. That's all I have.

Yes, but it's knowing that you serve a God who raises the dead. So even if you die, you serve a God who can raise you back up, even if you die.

Yet it's getting to that place, and we we touched on this in previous episodes where Sharach, Meshach, and Abendigo were. But even if he don't. Even if he don't, you're still like, you're still sovereign.

Shanea 41:39

Right. Because he can.

Walter 41:41

Yes. And so for us, it's really just understanding that you have to get into a place where you just trust God. And as you're going through this, it's growing that, because the end of that, he said, uh verse 10, and he did rescue us from mortal danger, and he will rescue us again. We have placed our confidence in him and he will continue to rescue us. By going through that encounter with going through that experience, it taught Paul that no matter what, I am to go back to relying on him. It produced within him a knowing that God got me. That can only be produced through suffering, that can only be produced through going through things. And having to wait out those periods of trusting that eventually God will save you. Eventually.

And even if he don't, he still got you. But Paul was saying that he learned to rely on God because of this.

Comfort Through Suffering In 2 Corinthians 1

And so I think about, I won't get into details, I'll say this. I think about the the situation that, you know, we was going through with me, right? People were lying on me, making false accusations, uh, trying to drag us through court, all of this crazy stuff for stuff that was just outright straight up foolishness.

And I remember um God waking me up one morning and telling me that they were gonna try to do the same thing again, but that this time he had it and it was not gonna prevail.

Yeah.

Walter 43:29

He was like, I got it this time, essentially saying, I'm taking this into my care. And it's no matter what they do, it's not gonna happen. The challenge became, and interestingly, I think a week later I received the paperwork showing what was going on. The challenge became as you went through it again, it was hard. People are lying on you, false accusations, other people that come up against you, they're trying to do everything they Can to get this end result. And there were even instances where you felt like you were being attacked based upon these lies, or these lies were being believed. But God reminded me of his word and said, Did not I tell you that they were going to try to do the same thing again? And they tried to do the same thing again.

They didn't try. They did do they did do the same thing again.

Walter 44:28

It was challenging.

Shanea 44:29

When you got to the end, that very last court date, it was like, oh.

Walter 44:35

But it was not like, oh, when I was dealing with it though. It was like, bruh, this is a lie.

Shanea 44:40

I know what I'm saying is like the end result was completely different.

Walter 44:44

Yeah.

Shanea 44:45

Than what you had expected it to go like because of what it had gone last time previously.

Walter 44:51

But God reminded me of his word even as I was dealing with it and did not know how it was going to go. And God did what he said he was going to do. It felt like it won't go. But it failed. And so it's a reminder that when God speaks, and that that particular instance taught me that when God speaks a word, when he says it, it will be as he said it. Don't know the when.

Shanea 45:15

We don't know when. Don't know the where. We don't know how.

Walter 45:17

Don't know the how. But I know it will be done because God is not like man. He don't lie. His word will not return to him void, is what the scripture teaches us. So it's standing firm on that word and it's having that word of God in your life. And that's what you all got to do. You have to gain that word. What is God speaking over this particular situation?

As you're going through what you're going through, what is God saying about it?

Shanea 45:42

God, how are you getting the glory through this? What is your will?

Walter 45:47

So, you know, then I think the other thing, remember that as we go through suffering, um, it equips us to comfort others. And that's what Paul was talking about earlier in the scripture. Um so, persecution version of consequences. We've touched on this before. And this is 2 Corinthians 4, which is um where this all begins. I think we're gonna read that and then we will probably begin to wrap it up. Um let's go to 2 Corinthians chapter 4, which is a good read. It says, uh see, um read all of this. Should I read all of this? It's not that long. Uh therefore, since God in his mercy has given us this new way, we never give up. We reject all shameful deeds and underhanded methods, we don't try to trick anyone or distort the word of God. We tell the truth before God, and all who are honest know this. If the good news we preach is hidden behind a what avail, it is hidden only from the people who are perishing. Satan, who is the God of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don't believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the good news. They don't understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God. You see, we don't go around preaching about ourselves. We preach that Jesus Christ is Lord, and we ourselves are your servants for Jesus' sake. For God who said, Let there be light and darkness, has made this light shine in our hearts so we can know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ. We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay, clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves. We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed. Through suffering, our bodies continue to share in the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be seen in our bodies. Yes, we live under constant danger of death because we serve Jesus, so that this life, so that the life of Jesus will be evident in our dying bodies. So we live in the face of death, but this has resulted in eternal life for you. But we continue to preach because we have the same kind of faith that the psalmist had when he said, I believe in God, so I spoke. We know that God who raised the Lord Jesus will also raise us with Jesus and present us to himself together together with you. All of this is for your benefit, and as God's grace reaches more and more people, there will be great thanksgiving, and God will receive more and more glory. That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day, for our present troubles are small and won't last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever. So we don't look at the troubles we can see now, rather we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.

Pressed But Not Crushed In 2 Corinthians 4

So it's so easy to focus on what you're going through and think that that's the end all be all. Yet many of the things that we deal with end up being things that God uses within us as a testimony to share the goodness of Jesus Christ, the goodness of God. Yes, and to help others, to help others, and to help us have a more intimate and personal relationship with Him.

Shanea 50:03

Yes. While you were reading, I was thinking about um what I saw earlier about when Trav Travis Green was talking about um God had him looking up palm trees. And he said that um you know the palm trees, they they start to grow roots first. Really, really deep, deep down before you can even really see anything at the surface. So that when they grow, you know, palm trees are the only trees that they they stay upright in a storm. They'll bend but they don't break. And so what came to me when I after I was looking at his message was, you know, Jesus being our firm foundation so that we will bend, but we won't break. And so when we're going through all the things that we're gonna that we're going through and gonna go through, because this walk is not easy, the devil walks around to what?

Kill, still, and destroy.

Shanea 51:09

Kill, still, and destroy. But he's just prowling. But we'll bend and not break, and a lot of people break because they don't have a firm foundation.

And so with us, the things that we've been going through, bruh, if I did not have Jesus, if I did not have Jesus, I would have broken a long time ago.

Walter 51:35

Oh yes.

Shanea 51:36

I would have broken. I would have anybody going through the things that we have been going through would have been, would have broke.

Walter 51:45

It don't even make sense.

Shanea 51:46

You know how people just snap, snapped.

Walter 51:49

It don't, it don't even make sense. There are the in the midst of um, since we've been married, right? It is the epitome of the enemy literally trying to use others to come up against our marriage.

And come up against our family outside sources, which be it in in a in a sense, it it it it causes you to become more focused and driven and understanding that this is something great. But anyone else from a natural perspective would be like, this is too much.

This is way too much.

Because it does not make sense. It would snap how people have joined forces. Yeah. Well, in two different, in two different countries. When we tell our testimony, you're gonna be like, What? In two different countries. We we we talk to our some of our friends about some of the stuff that we've dealt with, and and even our pastors and they're like, How?

How? Even our children be like, how?

Walter 52:49

Why?

This don't even make sense.

How did it even happen? And it's like, it's because it's it's spiritual.

Yes, it's it don't make sense. It is an all-outright war. And when you have to, you know, when it it's you trusting that God got you and understanding the Bible says that what is done in the dark is always brought to the light.

And the scripture that God gave me earlier on or a few months ago, as we've been dealing with all of the stuff that we've been dealing with, key scripture, God will not be mocked. Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. So it even when, you know, I'm like speaking to some of my brothers, and they're like, okay, this is what I would do, there's a resolve in me to say, I can't touch this because God got it.

Yeah. It's not my fight.

Walter 53:44

It's not my fight.

And that's when you you have that firm foundation in Christ to know this is not, this battle isn't mine. It's not even, it's not even about me.

Walter 53:54

Many times, and in this specific situation, you're threatened by the God in me. Yes. The God in me threatens you.

You don't like the God in me.

You don't like the God in me, which is why you're not. And so when that be the case, when that, and it it's it's almost like, and I I told my wife this way.

Like they came for us before, but they come for you even harder.

Well, see, I would say to anyone, I would just not go up against a follower of Christ.

A true believer.

Walter 54:25

I would not, it's not good for you. And it may seem as if you're getting away with it. It may seem like they're not doing anything, it may seem like they're allowing it, but it's because we understand how big our God is. And our hope and our prayer is in many cases, bro, don't do this.

No, and the thing is, is you don't know who God has chosen.

Even prior to me converting, right? Even prior to me saying, Jesus, I really, really take you serious now. I was still chosen.

Well, see, you know what I think about, I think about the um, and some people don't like it, but it was a powerful scene in um the movie, in this the series David.

And he was like, I serve the God who literally is over the alive and the dead. You're seeing who I'm connected to. And she was like, Yeah, bro, I'm not, I'm not dealing with that. Y'all let them go. I don't want no parsing.

I don't want no problems.

And so a lot of times people don't see in the spirit who they're dealing with.

Exactly.

And because they don't, because you you have the other people that was like, I'm gonna go up against them, I'm gonna do this.

Oh, yeah. You have all the other witches or all the other people in the coven was like, Yeah, we need to, we need to unalive all of them. But the one who could really see in the spirit was like, nah, he can't be touched.

Don't touch him. I don't want the consequences associated with that.

Because a lot of people can't see who's behind you and they end up with these consequences.

And so, you know, it's just really trusting and under you gotta know who you are. It's like that dream I had where the storm was hitting and it was coming. And um I was trying to get around it, and I'm like, okay, maybe I'll go back, but I could not get around it. And it was picking up trees, and it seemed so big and so large.

And we went to hide in the garage, and you know, the storm turned into a like an extraterrestrial being.

And I told you, like, she had the gases and stuff, and she was lifting the door up to basically put it in there. And it was like I became planning on whatever that thing was that I was on. Um, like a what was it? It was a sewage uh something.

Oh, like the sewer um thing.

Yeah. And I began to pray and call on Jesus. And as I began to pray and call on Jesus, even though she was putting those fumes in to try to take us out, it began to levitate. And she saw Jesus in me, and she um uh she basically bowed down to who I served and who I belong to.

And so in many cases, it's you understanding who lives inside you. You understanding that Jesus has sent the Holy Spirit as your helper and that you have direct access to God. So when you're going places, it's not by your might, it's not by your strength, which is what Paul was talking about, it's by the power of God within you.

Greater is he that's in me than he that's in the world, that you're able to operate and do what you're doing. So even as we're dealing with some of the things that we're dealing with, it's not by our own strength, because if it was, we would have given out a long time ago.

It's by the strength of God, it's by us having an understanding of who we serve and who we belong to and that he got us. And then, you know, even as we talk and we discuss all of these different things we discuss throughout these different podcasts, we uh we apply these things to our own lives.

Firm Foundation, Spiritual War, And Identity

I know, we're almost done. So let me this real quick consequences per versus persecution. A few things. Consequences is a result of previous decisions, it calls for repentance and produces maturity. Persecution is a result of obedience to God or to Christ. Prime example, Paul suffered for preaching the gospel. Not every hardship is persecution, and not every hardship is punishment. Those things is something that we have to live by and understand. Um so one of the things that we can kind of look at is um is this a result of my obedience or is it a result of my choices? And that's what we talked about earlier when you're dealing with the decisions you made.

Whether you're being persecuted or whether this is a result of what the decisions you made. The two can be true at the same time. You could be persecuted and also dealing with uh the result of choices you made. Yes. The two can be true and separate and become intertwined. So um kind of really just ending this out. Even as we're dealing with suffering and going through different things, we're called to live within the constraints of time, but also we're called to approach things from an eternity perspective. And we have to renew our mind. So we'll move away from interpreting our lives through temporary circumstances and even making decisions based upon temporary circumstances. We have to start seeing ourselves as God sees ourselves, and we have to start looking at uh seasons and approaching it the way that God approached seasons. Then we have to have pray for uh discernment and have an understanding of when a season is ending, when the season is about to be begin, when it's shifting. Um because sometimes we can get caught up in the previous season that God has already pulled us out of.

Or sometimes we can look at a season as being bigger than anything else when it's nothing more than a season.

Yeah, we just don't know how long the season lasts.

If it's winter and you still trying to act like it's summer and going out with shorts on and a short sleeved shirt, and it's negative 10 or 30 degrees outside or 20 degrees outside, you're gonna be struggling. If it's summer and you still trying to walk around like it's winter.

But even even but even winter, spring, summer, fall, they have, they're not even constrained to time. Like we have set on the calendar when winter starts, but winter can start totally like a a few weeks before. It can get colder a few weeks before, or a few weeks later than that, then after the time. You know what I'm saying? Like, even though it says summer, it don't feel like summer.

So that says what? That's it even more um an example of you have time, but you have to understand seasons. You can't go just off time. Right. You have to go off the season.

Discerning Seasons Without Living By Calendars

Oh, this is good. The temporary exists within time. The promise exists within eternity. The temporary exists within time, the promise exists within eternity. Gotta lay hold to that promise. I just did that and it's gonna pick up. I should not be talking about you. But um we pray that this has been a blessing. My wife is tired.

And so Yes, I'm sure I'm tired. I know I look tired.

So we will say that we appreciate you all. Um, we pray that these episodes are being a blessing to you. It blesses us. Sometimes I'll be reading the things that God be giving. I'm like, bruh, this for me. This for us, especially as we're dealing with what we're dealing with. And so, but even with us, um, there's an understanding, and and we have to live by what we teach, practice what we teach. Um, as we're going through the things that we're going through, that it's a season. And and one of the greatest things that we understand is, and one of the things that God has been dealing with me on consistently, um, especially given what I just went through, is don't allow that to dictate your character. Because it's so easy the one that do that get back. Yes. It's so easy the one that move in flesh. But it's like, so even as you're going through what you're going through and you're dealing with whatever you're dealing with, you can't that, you can't allow that to define who you are. We'll still um or allow that to call to shape you into being something. Because it's so easy, understandably, to become something because of what people do to you, or what you're going through, or what you're dealing with, or become hardened. But the Bible still is called, the Bible still calls for us to operate uh uh under the influence and the guidance of the fruit of the Spirit. We're still called to take upon the DNA of God.

Yeah, we have to have self-control.

Yeah, the Bible tells us to take upon the identity of Christ. And we see that, we see a beautiful example of that uh on the cross and what he did. And so that's our example when he still looked up to heaven and said, Father, forgive them for they know not what they do. They deserved whatever he sent them. They deserved for the angels to come down and put that work in with them. But he restrained himself and he still he still chose to move in love. Now, that's that doesn't mean that you be stupid. We touched on that in the previous episode.

No, I mean you let God deal with the consequences, and the consequences of their actions landed them exactly where it was gonna be.

Look at Judas. Man was tormented by the enemy.

The thing that's so unfortunate, and we're gonna go, is what people don't understand when you yield and you submit to allowing the enemy to use you. What you don't realize is that while you think you are coming up against people and destroying people, the very thing that he's using you to do to people, he's also doing to you.

Because the enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy.

But you're destroying us out yourself. You're literally example after example after example. Pharaoh was so hard-pressed on what he wanted to do, to where he followed Moses and he ended up dying.

Yeah, that came to me earlier too, when you're going through the process, because the the children saw Moses and they were like, Moses, what's up with this God? I thought you said we were gonna get us out of here. But we still here. Don't even worry about it no more. We just gonna stay. We just gonna stay and we just gonna deal with this and we'll figure it out.
